T. Rowe Price up after Trump win

T. ROWE PRICE GROUP INC. $77 (Nasdaq symbol TROW; Aggressive Growth and Income Portfolios, Finance sector; Shares outstanding: 243.4 million; Market cap: $18.7 billion; Price-to-sales ratio: 4.5; Dividend yield: 2.8%; TSINetwork Rating: Average; www.troweprice. com) sells mutual funds and wealth management services.

The company’s assets under management rose 12.0%, to $812.9 million as of September 30, 2016, from $725.5 billion a year earlier.

T. Rowe Price’s fee income varies with the value of the securities it administers, so its revenue during the third quarter of 2016 gained 4.2%, to $1.09 billion from $1.04 billion. Earnings improved 8.3%, to $299.9 million from $277.0 million. Due to fewer shares outstanding, per-share earnings gained 10.4%, to $1.17 from $1.06.

The stock has jumped 20% since the U.S. Presidential election. That’s because President-elect Donald Trump may cancel regulations for investment firms that are due to take effect in April 2017.

Specifically, those new rules impose a “fiduciary” standard on retirement-investing professionals. That means they must put the interest of their clients ahead of their own. Those standards are more stringent than the current requirement that they only recommend “suitable” prod ucts for their clients. Setting up systems to comply with the new rules would increase T. Rowe Price’s costs.

T. Rowe Price is a buy.
