3M COMPANY $132 remains a buy for long-term gains. The company (New York symbol MMM; Income-Growth Portfolio, Manufacturing sector; Shares outstanding: 549.4 million; Market cap: $72.5 billion; Dividend yield: 2.1%; Dividend Sustainability Rating: Average; www.3m.com) spun off its Health Care division as a separate firm called Solventum Corp. (New York symbol SOLV) on April 1, 2024. Investors received one share of Solventum for every four shares of 3M they held. 3M retained a 19.9% stake, but it plans to sell those shares within five years. Due to the spinoff, 3M cut your quarterly dividend by 53.6% with the June 2024 payment. The new annual rate of $2.80 a share yields 2.1%. 3M’s remaining businesses make various industrial and consumer products, including Post-it notes, Scotch tape, Scotch-Brite cleaning products, Scotchguard fabric protection and Thinsulate insulation. The company expects its sales to rise about 0.75% for all of 2024. It should also earn $7.25 a share this year, and the stock trades at a reasonable 18.2 times that forecast. 3M…
