Veren gets a buyout!

VEREN INC., $9.54, is now a tender for investors. The company (Toronto symbol VRN; Shares o/s: 611.8 million; Market cap: $5.8 billion; TSINetwork Rating: Extra Risk; Dividend yield: 4.8%; www.vrn.com) has received a takeover offer from Whitecap Resources (symbol WCP on Toronto). That firm will pay 1.05 of its shares for each share of Veren. That’s worth $9.74 a share at today’s price for Whitecap. The transaction would make Whitecap the seventh-largest Canadian oil producer by production volumes, the biggest landholder in the Montney and Duvernay regions of western Alberta, and the second-largest oil producer in Saskatchewan. Veren’s shares now trade just below the takeover offer of $9.74. That indicates investors feel a higher bid is unlikely. Veren’s shareholders should tender to the takeover offer. Note, however, that even if you do tender, you will still get any higher offer that may emerge for Veren’s shares. shares…
