A record first half of the year for Canadian ETFs

The Canadian ETF market experienced significant growth in the first half of 2024, with an asset base valued at $442 billion at the end of June. New money invested into Canadian-listed ETFs amounted to $33.3 billion—a record for the first half of the year. Most ETF money in the Canadian market is invested in stocks (62%), followed by fixed income (30%). For the first half of the year, fixed-income ETFs had significant inflows. In the stocks category, technology, utilities, and materials have attracted the most money. The U.S. ETF market also expanded in the first half of 2024 with assets under management valued at $9.2 trillion by the end of June 2024. That includes new assets of $437 billion in the first half of 2024. Most ETF money in the U.S. market is invested in stocks (78% of the total), followed by fixed-income funds (18%).
