ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ ETF $19.64 (Nasdaq symbol SQQQ) aims to deliver 3 times the inverse of the daily performance of the Nasdaq 100 Index. The Nasdaq 100 Index is comprised of shares of companies in a number of major industries, including telecommunications, computer hardware equipment and software, retail/wholesale trade, and biotechnology. It does not contain financial firms. During periods when the price of the Nasdaq 100 declines, the ETF will deliver positive returns. Price gains, on the other hand, should result in losses for the fund. The ETF launched in February 2010 and has gathered $1.6 billion of assets. It charges a high MER of 0.95%. Since inception a decade ago, the fund has lost a whopping 99.9% of its value. That’s because the Nasdaq 100 has soared over that time.
