Here we highlight just two investment ideas for 2025. The Supplement on page 19 provides more details on both and other ETF strategies. ISHARES S&P 500 3% CAPPED INDEX ETF $45.52 (Toronto symbol XUSC; TSINetwork ETF Rating: Conservative; Market cap: $72.8 million) invests in large and medium-sized U.S. stocks. It tracks its benchmark, the S&P 500 3% Capped Index. The ETF holds all 500 of those stocks, but exposure to each stock is capped at 3% of portfolio assets. Rebalancing takes place at the end of every quarter when stocks that exceed 3% are reduced and the proceeds re-allocated to the rest of the portfolio. The fund’s approach has a number of negatives for investors. It incurs ongoing brokerage charges as the ETF rebalances its holdings. The approach also forces fund managers to sell off portions of stocks that are rising steadily—perhaps missing out on some of the stocks’ biggest gains.
