ADT INC. $7.47 is a Power Buy. The company (New York symbol ADT; TSINetwork Rating: Extra Risk) (www.adt.com; Shares outstanding: 770.4 million; Market cap: $5.8 billion; Dividend yield 1.9%) is now investing over $1 million in technology aimed at helping retailers detect and deter shoplifting. However, it has an “ethical” focus, relying on facial recognition data that ignores race, gender, and age.
The company is buying a stake in Percepta Labs, a privately held artificial intelligence (AI) startup out of Philadelphia. ADT will invest through its ADT Commercial unit. That division is a leading provider of commercial security, fire, life safety, and risk consulting services in the U.S.
