And earlier this year, it stayed out of the running to buy oil and gas giant Hess Corp.’s 1,354 U.S. gas stations and convenience stores. Marathon Petroleum eventually paid $2.9 billion. Meanwhile, Couche-Tard’s sales rose 2.0% in the quarter ended April 27, 2014, to $9.0 billion from $8.8 billion a year ago. Earnings per share rose 10.0%, to $0.22 from $0.20.
