SAPUTO INC. $25 is still a hold. The company (Toronto symbol SAP; Aggressive Growth Portfolio, Consumer sector; Shares outstanding: 422.6 million; Market cap: $10.6 billion; Price-to-sales ratio: 0.6; Dividend yield: 3.0%; TSINetwork Rating: Average; www.saputo.com) is Canada’s largest producer of dairy products. It also operates dairies in the U.S., Australia, the U.K. and Argentina. Due to poor market conditions, Saputo wrote down the value of its U.K. operations by $674 million (after-tax). If you exclude that charge and other unusual items, the company earned $167 million, or $0.39 a share, in its fiscal 2025 third quarter, ended December 31, 2024. That’s up 2.5% from $163 million, or $0.38 a share, a year earlier. Revenue in the quarter rose 17.0%, to $4.99 billion from $4.27 billion a year earlier. That’s mainly due to higher volumes and prices at all of its businesses. However, Saputo could face more competition from U.S. producers, who want greater access to Canada’s regulated dairy markets.
