The O’Leary Hard Asset Income Fund, $11.77, symbol OHA.UN on Toronto (Units outstanding: 8.3 million; Market cap: $98.1 million, www.olearyfunds.com), began trading as a closed-end fund last month, when it sold units to the public for $12 each. The fund aims to pay monthly distributions of $0.065 per unit. That gives it a 6.6% yield, based on today’s price. It also intends to convert to a mutual fund on or about October 31, 2012. The fund has a management fee of 1.5%. The O’Leary Hard Asset Income Fund will invest in what it sees as “hard assets”. These are mainly Canadian and global dividend-paying stocks that own or control significant tangible assets. They have market capitalizations of at least $1 billion, and they operate in industries that include real estate, pipelines, power utilities, transportation and telecommunications.
