A: Tamarack Valley Energy, $0.78, symbol TVE on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 222.8 million; Market cap: $171.2 million; www.tamarackvalley.ca), is an oil and gas exploration and production firm in Western Canada. The company focuses on Alberta and Saskatchewan, and its output is 63% oil and 37% gas. To conserve cash until market conditions improve, Tamarack has cut back on exploration and development spending. It has also cut down on production: the company will leave oil and gas in the ground until prices rebound. As a result, in the three months ended June 30, 2020, Tamarack’s average daily production fell 12.8%, to 20,997 barrels of oil equivalent per day from 24,090. While the company’s cash flow in the latest quarter fell 51.9%, to $0.13 a share from $0.27, it did remain positive. The drop reflects lower natural gas and oil prices as well as the reduced output.
