Dundee International REIT, $9.85, symbol DI.UN on Toronto (Units outstanding: 48.5 million; Market cap: $477.7 million; www.dundeeinternational.com), is the only Canadian real estate investment trust that focuses exclusively on investing outside Canada. Dundee International aims to grow by acquiring different types of properties in certain European countries, starting with Germany. Right now the trust owns 295 commercial properties that contain a total of 12.6 million square feet. In all, these buildings have an 87.8% occupancy rate. Dundee International first sold units to the public in August 2011. Initially, it sold 27 million units for $10 each to raise $270 million. It raised a further $140 million in an issue of debentures. The REIT used the total proceeds of $410 million to help buy a $1-billion portfolio of 295 properties in Germany from Deutsche Post.
