EnergySolutions, $4.71, symbol ES on New York (Shares outstanding: 88.5 million; Market cap: $410.1 million; www.energysolutions.com) is a Salt Lake City, Utah-based company that provides a number of nuclear-related services, including operating and decommissioning (or taking apart) nuclear plants, managing spent nuclear fuel and transporting nuclear material. It also disposes of radioactive waste from medical and research facilities.
The company gets 84.8% of its sales by selling its services to businesses, including utilities. The remaining 15.2% comes from the U.S. and U.K. governments. Two-thirds of the company’s business customers are overseas, mainly in the U.K., Europe and Asia.
In the three months ended March 31, 2011, EnergySolutions’ revenue rose 7.5%, to $522.3 million from $485.9 million a year earlier. The weak U.S. dollar contributed $8.1 million to the recent figure. Contracts to operate and decommission 10 of the U.K.’s Magnox reactor sites also pushed up revenue.
