It’s good to be good at what you do, and it’s also good to be lucky, but it’s best to be both. It’s hard to think of a better way to describe Google’s recent experience in the smartphone market. We bring this up here because of Google’s parent company, ALPHABET INC., $795.26, (Nasdaq symbols GOOG [class C non-voting] and $821.49, GOOGL [class A voting], Shares outstanding: 688.3 million; Market cap: $545.3 billion, www.abc.xyz). This past January, we made Alphabet our #1 Inner Circle buy for 2016. We chose it mainly for its online advertising business. But Alphabet also has a number of web-based companies that could turn into world-scale enterprises. Google developed the Android operating system, which now runs on more than 80% of all smartphones sold in the world, including nearly all Samsung smartphones. On October 4, Google unveiled its new Pixel phones. Its timing could not have been better…
