In pre-Internet days, when my children were young, they would now and then come up with an idea for a new or improved household gadget. For instance, my son thought it would be great if you could press a button on the TV to locate the remote, which often got lost in the McKeough living room in those days. (This can now be done, but the button is on your cellphone.) Another time, my daughter thought it would be great if our home computer could translate from French to English and the other way around (both kids were in French Immersion). A number of websites can now translate a wide variety of languages, at no cost, although the translations are rough and sometimes misleading. I got to thinking about this the other day when I was grinding coffee beans. I prefer the taste of coffee from fresh-ground beans, but it’s hard to get the grind just right.
