A: Bruker Corp., $65.10, symbol BRKR on Nasdaq (Shares outstanding: 145.3 million; Market cap: $10.0 billion; www.bruker.com), manufactures high-performance scientific instruments and diagnostic solutions used by scientists. Its products include diffractometers, X-ray microscopes, elemental analyzers, fluorescence microscopy solutions, and many others. On February 28, 2024, the company announced the acquisition of ELITechGroup. That firm, with over 500 employees and over 40 active patents, develops and sells innovative molecular diagnostic (MDx) systems and assays, niche biomedical systems, and microbiology products. The purchase price for ELITechGroup is 870 million euros ($947.1 million U.S.). ELITechGroup’s molecular diagnostic business accounts for most of its revenue, mostly from the sale of sample-to-answer instruments, branded InGenius and BeGenius systems. There are currently more than 1,000 InGenius and BeGenius systems in clinical routine usage, with a focus on Europe and Latin America; they’re primarily used in mid-sized hospitals and clinical laboratories, or as testing platforms in large hospitals and labs.
