A: Tamarack Valley Energy, $3.92, symbol TVE on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 406.3 million; Market cap: $1.6 billion; www.tamarackvalley.ca), is an oil and gas exploration and production firm in Western Canada. The company focuses on Alberta and Saskatchewan, and its output is 71% oil and 29% gas. In the three months ended September 30, 2021, Tamarack’s average daily production jumped 91.2%, to 41,256 barrels of oil equivalent per day from 21,533. The increase came from a series of acquisitions—including the West Central acquisition that closed in July 2020 for $4.3 million; the Provost and Nipisi acquisitions that closed in March 2021 for $135.3 million; and the Anegada acquisition completed in June 2021 (see below for more on Anegada). The company’s cash flow in the latest quarter jumped 78.6%, to $0.25 a share from $0.14. The rise reflects much higher natural gas and oil prices as well as the increased output.
