A: Kinross Gold Corp., $10.58, symbol K on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 1.2 billion; Market cap: $12.7 billion; www.kinross.com), is a senior gold mining company with a diverse portfolio of mines and projects. In the U.S., the company operates two mines in Nevada (Round Mountain and Bald Mountain), and a mine (Fort Knox) and a development project (Manh Choh) in Alaska. In Canada, it owns the Great Bear development project in Red Lake, Ontario. In Brazil, Kinross operates Paracatur, a mine in the Minas Gerais region. In Chile, it operates the La Coipa mine in the Atacama region and the large Lobo-Marte development project. And in Mauritania, it operates Tasiast, a mine with growing production. In 2023, the company produced a total of 2.2 million gold equivalent ounces, up 10.0% from 2.0 million ounces in 2022.
