A: Calibre Mining Corp., $2.22, symbol CXB on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 789.2 million; Market cap: $1.8 billion; www.calibremining.com), is a mid-tier gold producer. In January 2024, Calibre acquired Marathon Gold for about $345 million (Cdn.). Calibre now owns 100% interest of Marathon’s advanced-stage Valentine gold project in Newfoundland & Labrador. The Valentine gold mine is currently under construction, with first gold production expected sometime in the first half of 2025. Upon full operation, Calibre expects Valentine to contribute 195,000 ounces of gold a year. The mine has a projected mine life of 14.2 years. In Nicaragua, Calibre owns several producing open-pit and underground mines, two milling facilities and a portfolio of exploration and development opportunities. The company’s most productive mine is the Limon mine and mill, which has produced more than 3.5 million ounces of gold over its lifetime.
